2019 Charity Quilt

Folks who have been here for a while have probably heard me talk about the Jingle Jam. For those who aren't familiar with it, it's a charity event hosted by the Yogscast every December, raising money for a huge variety of charities. Last year's featured charities included Call of Duty Endowment, Cancer Research UK, International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association, Mental Health Foundation, Save the Children, Special Effect, Wallace & Gromit's Grand Appeal, and Whale and Dolphin Conservation, with hundreds more donors could chose from if they wanted.
This year, we as a community can join this group effort by participating in a quilt project. Here's what you need to do to participate:
  1. Using 14ct fabric, create a square of any size, with dimensions in multiples of 10 (10x10, 20x20, etc)
  2. Send the square/s to the PO Box by November 1st 2019
  3. The squares will be assembled into a quilt, and auctioned off. All proceeds from the quilt will go to the 2019 Jingle Jam.
Your designs can be anything you like, though please try to keep them moderately SFW. Squares may be rejected based on content if the design is deemed offensive or hateful. The auction will start on December 1st, and last until the 10th. Payment is expected as soon as possible afterward, as this event is limited in time, and donations close on the 31st.

14ct fabric is required to make sure that all squares can fit together seamlessly.  The fabric can be any colour you like.  Designs can be full-coverage or partial.   Each person can submit as many squares as they like.

Right now, the exact process for the auction is still under development, but we'll have more information up as soon as possible!

2019 MadXStitchalong

The 2019 MadXStitchalong is scheduled to take two months this year.  Why?  Because it's a bit bigger than the ones in the past, for one, and a two-month schedule should hopefully make it easier for everyone to keep up.  It's also a drawn design this year, meaning that although the design is bigger, it's going to be much simpler to stitch and count, with a lower threshold for detail.

The 2019 SAL will run from September 1st through Halloween.  Also changing this year is the way you will be receiving your patterns.  Rather than having to remember to keep checking back at a certain page, there is a form below for you to sign up.  Every week, starting Sunday, September 1st, you will receive all your files over email.  The SAL will be structured at one page per week, except for the final week, which will be two pages.

Like every year, the design is a mystery.  But you do get to know some specifics.

Group Project: Bosch Quilt

This is the Garden of Earthly Delights by Hieronymus Bosch.  It is my favourite painting in history, because look at it.  It's insane.  Painted some time around 1500, the Garden of Earthly Delights is a triptych depicting Heaven (or Eden), Earth (or mortal sin), and Hell (or the Last Judgement), depending on one's interpretation of the panels.

Honestly, I just love it because look at it.  Is that a man playing a flute with his ass?  This is some demented Dutch Where's Waldo.

Why am I telling you about this delightfully horrifying tribute to humanity?  Because this is our next group project.  We, as a collective, will be stitching this thing.  I've wanted to stitch this for a long time, but haven't been able to because in order to preserve all the absurd detail, it needs to be huge.  Like, 500 stitches huge.  I kind of wanted to make it bigger, but it's already going to be almost 200 pattern pages as it is.

Do you want to participate?  Awesome!  Here's what…
